We live in the quiet countryside near Plymouth, WI – about an equal drive from Jason’s parents, Rebecca’s parents, and Rebecca’s sister in Madison – so we always have family nearby for support when needed! We also have amazing neighbors who go out of their way to lend a helping hand.
Our 4 acre property was undeveloped when we bought it and we initially built a small 16×24′ studio that we lived in while we designed and built our home (the studio now serves as Rebecca’s photography studio). Our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom ranch style home is accessible to anyone, regardless of age or ability, with zero steps and an open floor plan. It is well insulated and air tight, and includes features such as a wood burning stove and suntubes for natural light which help make it extremely energy efficient. We have large windows so we can enjoy the surrounding nature, including in our sunroom which is our favorite room for birdwatching. We used light paint colors to help create a bright feeling, and each bedroom and the sunroom also have shiplap sourced from local wood to create a warm and homey touch.

Our land has plenty of space for a child to roam and explore! We have a small pond in the backyard which Jason hand dug! It has a sandy beach great for building sand castles. Kiddos can dive and swim, along with catching frogs, tadpoles, and minnows! Along with the garden, greenhouse, orchard & vineyard, we are also lucky enough to have several kinds of wild berries, nuts and other edibles on our property that we enjoy collecting! A couple other favorite spots on the property are our hammocks which are a great place to relax in the summer, and our campfire pit! In the winter, Jason takes pride in building a 300′ long snow luge on our front hill, decking it our with holiday lights, starting gate, and fun whip-around hill at the end; our adult neighbors and friends have even enjoyed a few rides down the track!

We are so happy to live in an area surrounded by so many local and state parks! We are only a 20 minutes drive from beautiful Lake Michigan, with beaches, and access to sail boating, surfing, snorkeling, and a variety of other water activities. Kohler Andrae State Park is one of our favorites with amazing sand dunes! We also live a few minutes drive from the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Parnell Tower, one of our regular spots for watching the sunset, is only 5 minutes away and offers stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside. Butler Lake, where we like to kayak, is 10 minutes drive and offers decent fishing (and a fishing pole to be caught that Jason lost a few years back)! Bookworm Gardens in a magical garden based around characters and scenes from favorite children’s books. We are also 1-1.5 hours away from Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Madison, and 2.5 hours away from Chicago, giving us access to larger music, theater, cultural, and sporting events. There is so much to see and do around us, and we can’t wait to share it with our children.
